It's difficult to be sure, but one thing I did before I bought any after I had been scammed (yeah, I should really have done that before, I know!) was to call the company before I ordered from them.

A lot of the scams that have been going on are reliant on a permanently engaged phone line. If you can't get through then it's probably safe to asume that they don't want you to get through!

They also have some dodgy terms and conditions on their sites. Look out for these!

I almost ordered from a site that offered a free trail.

Fortunately at the last minute I looked more into it and found where it was only for 14 days and they would bill you after those 14 days.

Even if you don't want the product you can't return. This was on a site with Opra. Why does she encourage this?

I sincerely doubt that Oprah is personally involved in any sites that scam people. She merely made a comment about acai being a good, nutitious fruit and people have used her to promote their products and scams.

Anyway. Best way I have found to see if a company is legit is to see if they answer questions on the phone.

Just to go over the point again: if you are being offered a free trial, then it is most likely that it is a scam.

Simple. If they don't list a phone number where you can reach them, it's probably a scam. For sure, it's not worth the risk.

If they do have a number you can reach them at, call. Say you got the free trial and it didn't work for you and you want to cancel. They'll probably put you on hold right away and give you the runaround. Hang up, they are a scam.
